Palang | Ashley Muller

Art, Interactive Prototyping

Palang is an investigation into the capacity of traditional southeast asian dance to convey the dynamics of dominance, submission, and transgression.

The manipulation of an existing cultural object into one that embodies the pressures of political, cultural, and gender roles that surrounds the physicality and mentality of women within a society.

The resulting harness consists of magnetic sensors that releases the constrictive suspension wires as the dancer moves and is able to create more tension against the harness as each wire is released.
